Mindful Sparks for Creative Writing
Week Ten
One Thing at a Time
We like to multitask. Write and check emails while watching TV or listening to music. However, attention is a muscle. And when you really pay attention, you start to notice tiny details you might otherwise have missed open up, begin to come alive, because you’re finally seeing clearly.
Mindfulness is the practice of staying with each moment: one breath, one sip of coffee, one step and one sound. The same goes for writing. When you slow down, you notice what you usually miss: textures, timing, thought before language.
This week’s exercise:
Pick a simple task like peeling an orange, tying a shoe, or lighting a candle. Do it slowly. No rushing. Then write about it with full attention, detail, and presence. Stay with the moment.
Story Prompt:
“They had done this a hundred times, but today something was different…”
