Mindful Sparks for Creative Writing
Week 7
The Smell of Story
Smell is powerful. One whiff of cinnamon or cut grass and we’re pulled into memories we didn’t know we still held.
We often overlook smell, but it’s a shortcut to emotion. When you write with your nose, you unlock a different kind of memory.
This week’s exercise:
Find a smell that brings something up for you. A perfume, a spice, the scent of rain. Let it guide you. Write a short scene or memory shaped by that smell.
Story Prompt:
“They opened the box, and the scent hit them like a wave…”
