Mindful Sparks for Creative Writing
Week 4
Walk on The Calm Side
Most of us walk without noticing a thing. Our feet move, but our minds are elsewhere. Today, try walking slowly. Walk twenty steps and try to notice everything. The air on your face. The sound of your footwear on the surface you’re walking on. The way your weight shifts from side to side. This is mindful walking, and it has a strange power: it empties the mind just enough to allow ideas to sneak in. Virginia Woolf walked the streets of London to help generate ideas, and William Wordsworth, who climbed up and down mountains wandering lonely as a cloud, is reputed to have walked 180,000 miles on foot, proving that creativity doesn’t only live at a desk, it follows you wherever you decide to put your feet.
This week’s exercise.
Take a short walk with no phone, no talking, and notice everything.
Story Prompt:
“With each step, the world changed a little…”
